Marquee makeover with tipi teepee

Thursday, September 20, 2012

We came across these tipi tents recently and thought you might be as intrigued by them as we are. Offering a whole new take on the modern day marquee, this new Melbourne based company, TipiKata is really making a mark on the local party scene.

Hayley Pethica, co-founder of TipiKata, first encountered the tipis while attending a friend’s party in the UK. After falling in love with them on first sight she instantly recognized the potential for using the tipis to create a whole new look and feel to celebrations and events held in Australia.

As soon as Hayley returned home teamed she up with close friend Lina Lamont to turn their idea into reality. "I wanted to share the experience with everyone back home. The tipis create a unique atmosphere and space that is absolutely perfect for our climate and relaxed celebration style.” Hayley says.

TipiKata’s tipis take their design inspiration from the traditional dwellings of the Sami people, nomadic reindeer herders from Lapland. We think one of the best features of the design is their versatility.

If  extra space is needed, the sides of the tipis can be raised to make the most of sunny skies and starry nights, or lowered to create a cosy, intimate ambience.

One tipi can hold 70 seated guests or 100 for a cocktail function or party. A popular choice is the two tipi option for up to 130 seated guests. For bigger celebrations, the tipis can be joined together in lots of different configurations to create larger covered spaces for all kinds of outdoor events.

To top it all off, TipiKata can also provide a beautiful open fireplace, adding to the unique warmth and ambience of the tipis.

The Est Magazine christmas party might have just got itself some wings...
